Cincinnati police officers were already trying to move a crowd of hundreds of youths out of Smale Riverfront Park when gunfire erupted killing two people and injuring three others, said Christopher Smitherman, vice mayor and chair of city council's law and public safety committee.
Smitherman said council has worked to supply officers with more equipment to help save lives in the past year.
"Well, they had to use those tourniquets last night in order to save lives,” he said.

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - City and police officials are honoring the lives of two Cincinnati police officers gunned down in the line of duty 42 years ago. A memorial street renaming ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday for Officers Dennis Bennington and Robert Seiffert. It will take place on the corner of Oak and May streets in Walnut Hills, where a new street sign will be unveiled, Vice Mayor Christopher Smitherman’s office announced Thursday.
North Avondale street dedicated in memory of shooting victim

CINCINNATI —Cincinnati city leaders honored a shooting victim Saturday who was killed when she was just 18.
Now a stretch of Burton Avenue in North Avondale is named after Robin Pearl II. Pearl was shot and killed on that street in 2015 when she was sitting in the passenger seat of a car. City leaders say she was an innocent victim of gun violence.
Vice Mayor Christopher Smitherman and Council Member David Mann joined her family Saturday for the street dedication.
